Uh oh... you just blew up reality!

Flesh eating teachers, brain scanning machines, evil sky rockets and the most mighty packed lunchbox in the history of the universe all feature in Nightmare High, a new game from Channel Four which we and our brilliant collaborators at Somethin Else and Coney have been lovingly crafting throughout 2011.

After working amongst zombies teachers, the inner workings of a child's brain and digesting jam lasagne at the office for several months, we are happy to say that Nightmare High has finally opened its doors!

Nom Nation is a delicious platform adventure coming very soon from Channel 4 Education and Playerthree.

You play as Chef, on a journey through five nutritious worlds on a mission to rescue the Book of Nom from Jabber the Gut, head of the McFatass Corporation. Only the Noms can help you succeed. Harnessing their hidden powers is the key ingredient. You can even take farting to a whole new level!
Gobble up Nom Nation on PSN

Farting, bloating, sugar rush, obesity, vomiting. Our latest educational game, Nom Nation for Channel 4 Education has at last been released on PSN. It seems to have taken an eternity to see the game finally launch. We started the project over a year ago, producing a flash game using the flixel engine, creating an original group of characters and storyline, a vast amount of pixel animations and tile sheets and lots of large levels to enjoy.

We then ported the whole lot in-house to PSP. At the same time we've also ported a version to iPhone, iPad and iPodTouch. With the best intention in the world we hoped for them all to go live at the same time but we'll settle for a PSN release first. The web version and iOS versions are so very close too. Each version has different aspect ratios and control methods to deal with so it's been quite an undertaking.

We've started distributing PSN review codes to some online sites so if there are any review sites reading this, just drop us a line and we can send a review code too. So far we've seen it described on one post as a 'peculiar looking platformer' which made us laugh, we'll take that as a compliment as it really is full of some very unusual powerups based upon the effects of food on the human body. Not ones you'd usually see in consumer games. Being a little odd is not a bad way to get noticed but we know it has to stand alone with some good gameplay too.

As with our previous education games such as Rizk, Stop Disasters and Routesgame, this is not an educational game in the traditional sense. It doesn't popup loads of worthy information. The more you play the game, the more the player begins to understand about food and nutrition and the benefits from eating a balance of foods. All the target focus groups (primarily teenagers who play games online and on handheld devices) we tested the game with enjoyed the gameplay and took away the right level of learning so we anxiously await the big wide world's response to the game.

Unfortunately the PSN version of the game is not available in the US, but stateside players will be able to check out the iOS and flash versions of the game too very soon

Nom Nation iPhone

Nom Nation, our nutritious educational game for Channel4 Education is at last live and FREE to download and play on iTunes and Web.

You can play the flash game at Play Nom Nation and download the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch game at iTunes

Featuring a huge amount of fun challenging levels and hundreds of 'Noms' (little food friends) to eat and discover, excellent music from Dave Cowen, and it's already picked up some amazing reviews for the Playstation Network version, such as "the best educational game ever" which made us blush just a little.

We'll shortly be adding it to other major free games sites as well, but please download it and give it a go.
And the winner is (pause)

Well, we don't know yet of course. But we do know that Nom Nation for C4Education has been nominated for a TIGA award in the serious games category. On top of that we created some games for the now BAFTA nominated Nightmare High project by Somethin'Else and C4Education too. It's not sphere of influence that we play around with much but we'd be lying if we weren't pleased to know both projects hadn't been recognised for all the hard work that went into them. As soon as we know the results we'll un-pause this post.
Nightmare High wins BAFTA

Nightmare High BAFTA

Fantastic news last night as Nightmare High won a children's BAFTA after being up against some very stiff competition in the form of CBBC's Tree Fu Tom, Disney's Where's my Water and CBBC's Deadly Planet. We developed all the games for Somethin' Else and Channel4 Education who created and managed the project and developed the story, website and all the filming.

Agency of Coney provided alot of the educational thinking and Ben Steers supplied the style for the characters. It was actually a tough project to produce games for as the there were some very specific learning outcomes that needed to be considered, many of which didn't naturally lend themselves to games.

However our aim is always to keep the games challening and fun whilst still producing the right learning outcomes. The games we produced formed modules within a tight storyline from Somethin' Else that the player has to experience. A mix of video, information, and entertainment to help encourage resilience and transition for school children moving from primary level to secondary level.

Well done to all the team involved.
